Substance Policy

YTS strives to be an accessible and comfortable space for as many singers as possible. We recognize that alcohol and other substances can be an important part of some people’s social singing experiences, while others would prefer to avoid them altogether. If you choose to use alcohol or other substances, please do so responsibly and courteously and be sure to follow all YTS and camp policies, as well as federal and state law.

Alcohol
For legal reasons, the Ashokan Center does not allow attendees to bring their own alcohol into Esopus lodge (the main camp building).  There will be a cash bar in the Esopus Lodge run by Ashokan open Friday and Saturday evenings (exact times TBD) selling beer, wine, and cider.  Note that this is different from past years.

We plan to have dry gathering spaces as well as dry housing. You will be able to sign up for dry housing during registration.

  • If you choose to drink, we expect you’ll be courteous and do so in moderation. Please take care to stay hydrated. If a member of the YTS committee asks you to stop drinking, you need to stop drinking.
  • If you are under the age of 21, you may not drink alcohol at YTS. If you’re found possessing, drinking, or under the influence of alcohol, you will be asked to leave the event immediately, without refund, and may be banned from future YTS events.
  • If you are over 21 and purchase drinks, you are responsible for any alcohol you purchase, including making sure that people under the age of 21 don’t get access to it. If you give alcohol to a minor, you will be asked to leave the event immediately, without refund, and may be banned from future YTS events.

Tobacco
Most of the Ashokan Center campus is smoke-free. If you smoke, please do so only in the designated smoking area. Please note, this applies to electronic cigarettes, pipes, cigars, and vaporizers as well as cigarettes.

When you’re done smoking, extinguish your cigarette butts thoroughly and take them to a trash can.

Marijuana
The Ashokan Center does not allow smoking or vaping Marijuana on the premises.

Illegal Drugs
Illegal drugs are not allowed at YTS. If you’re found possessing, using, or under the influence of illegal drugs, you will be asked to leave the event immediately, without refund, and may be banned from future YTS events.
