How We Choose Our Staff

Picture
YTS is a participant-driven program. We encourage attendees with any level of musical experience to drive the weekend by suggesting or leading workshops and by gathering for impromptu music sessions and conversations. Participants can look forward to musical exchanges and collaboration with one another. Our staff help to build our community knowledge and are resources for our participants. We hire staff who can share their expertise in specific traditional folk genres and the contexts of those song traditions.

The following are some factors that influence our committee’s choice of staff.

We want our complement of staff to embody or represent a variety of:
  • traditional folk genres
  • genders
  • ages
We want each staff person to have the following experience and orientation:
  • community spirit
  • involvement in other events, particularly as teachers or session leaders
  • ability to provide historical context and demonstrate traditional delivery or styles of singing in addition to the traditional songs themselves.

If you would like the committee to consider someone as staff, please fill out the Staff Recommendation Form below or follow this link.   We may have already booked staff for the upcoming event, but we welcome suggestions for future years!
