Platforms and Accessibility
YTS 2022 will be held online! We want everyone to be able to enjoy our event. We are continuing to develop our plans for platform design and use, and keeping accessibility in mind. Closer to the event, we'll send tutorials for the platforms we're using (including installation info and pictures) to registered attendees. |
Discord for Coordination and Socializing.
Discussions, social time, and general coordination will be happening on Discord. Discord is a platform that allows for text, image, video and audio communication between users in a chat channel. You can use Discord as a web application in your browser or download Discord as a desktop application for Windows and iOS at Discord.com. The accessibility on Discord for screen reader users is evolving and we hope to have more information as the event approaches. Discord is also available as a mobile app in the android and apple stores.
Zoom for Workshops
Workshops will be happening on Zoom. Zoom is a digital videoconference app that can be downloaded as a desktop app or used through a web browser. Zoom is also available as a mobile app. We will have live auto-captions and live audio transcripts available for all of our Zoom spaces.
Gather on Friday
As we all get excited for the weekend to start, we will have a digital mingling space on Friday on Gather.town. Gather is a website where you can move through a 'room' with a digital avatar and interact with other participants through voice and/or video. Live auto-captions are available for Gather if it is accessed through the Chrome web browser. Click here for information on how to enable live captions in Chrome. After registering, you will receive information on how to access our YTS Gather space on Friday!
Bucket Brigade for Small Group Singing
Bucket Brigade Singing is a program that Jeff Kaufman designed as an alternative to Zoom for singing. For each song, the leader of that song is assigned to the first of a sequence of buckets, and other singers are randomly assigned to other buckets. Each person gets to hear and sing along with all of the earlier buckets but not the later ones. This mostly solves the problem of latency while letting you hear on average about half of the other singers. It provides a way to improvise complex harmony and feel more like you're in a room of singers. Because Bucket Brigade Singing works best with a limited number of singers, we'll ask attendees to sign up in advance for sessions during the weekend.
Although there's no registration involved with Bucket Brigade, there is a brief setup process, and you'll need the following:
* A computer (not a phone or tablet)
* Chrome or Firefox
* Headphones, preferably wired ones
